Versova clean up update. Afroz Shah Suspends Mumbai Beach Clean Up

“I am Sorry, I Give Up”

Yes these are Afroz Shah’s words about his campaign in action.

My college was very close to versova beach, me and few of my friends had contributed to the campaign back in 2015 when it was just started.

He had little help from local residents and college students back then, but the campaign took off when Prime Minister Modi appreaciated his efforts to take the initiative under the banner “Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan”

Post that it was instant hit, lot of local and national NGO came ahead and helped him, but the question remains same!

Shah truly brought Mumbai together – policemen, the aam aadmi and celebrities all joined him in this venture. However, the beach would go back to its usual state because some irresponsible people still chose to litter.

After cleaning the garbage for more than 2 years and of over 9 tonnes but few goons heckled and thrashed him for cleaning up piles of garbage. Can’t people stop making the conditions worse? There had to be someone who’s spoiling the area again and again. And now they have an issue of safety of volunteers who are trying to make a better neighborhood to live.

After sincere efforts, and helping BMC for such a prolonged period. Today he gave up on the system

His efforts had recognized him as “Champions of the earth”

So now here comes the best part;

These are the statements made by Municipal corporation to him and his efforts,

(Disclaimer: If you don’t find them funny, you’re too dumb to understand satire)

“There is plenty of sand in the garbage we collect, hence the delay, they should segregate it or ask us to do it. Someone will have to do it after all”
“Weekend drives are not sustainable in long run”
Are they expecting people to pay Taxes for cleaning and then work their ass of from Monday to Saturday, then come on Sunday to clean their neighborhood? I agree on the part where people should take initiatives and stop littering around the city,

but someone’s job is to clean the city?
Where are those people?
Why its not their responsibility too?
Why BMC is blaming people who at least have taken initiatives to clean the city?
Then comes some political help (?) to make things better (?)
